Mundan Ceremony Puja

What is Mundan Ceremony?

The Mundan Ceremony, also known as Tonsure Ceremony, is a traditional practice in India performed with optimistic sentiments. Of all the Sanskar and Cultural Rituals of the Hindu religion, Mundan Ceremony is crucial. It’s a ritual where a baby’s hair is completely shaved off, and it is believed that the hair on the head of the newborn is impure, and shaving it will free the child from all the sins and negativity.

Importance of Mundan Sanskar

Mundan Sanskar is performed from the old ages, and it is believed that every spirit gets a human body after encountering 84 lakh yonis and then only borns. The hair on the child’s head is considered harmful and indicates the impureness of their past life. So, by shaving the hair, the child gets freedom and purification from the negativity of his past and leads a free life.

Other reasons for doing this are that people believe that shaving off the hair stimulates proper growth of the nerves and brain, and the child becomes intelligent going on further in life. Apart from these, it is also believed that by mundan, it keeps the baby’s head cool during summer. So, there are many beliefs regarding doing Mundan, and it is entirely up to the parents whether they want to do it with their child. A thumb rule would be to look at what your religion says about mundan, and if you feel right, then go ahead and do it, but be cautious so that the baby isn’t hurt.
